The MamulaCares Initiative
A non-profit charitable organization that benefits
the community of Lackawanna, New York

Mike Mamula graduated from Lackawanna High School in 1991. After achieving All Western New York honors, he was awarded a scholarship to Boston College. Through hard work and dedication Mike was the seventh overall pick in the in 1995 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.

After his playing days Mike has been deeply involved with many charities throughout the Philadelphia area but his heart belongs in Buffalo, specifically his hometown of Lackawanna. Mike felt a strong desire to give back, so he created the Mike Mamula Scholarship fund which as developed into the MamulaCares Initiative.

With tremendous gratitude to our sponsors, participants and committee we have been able to provide monies to deserving student athletes going on to college who demonstrate attributes to receive the scholarship. Also, the Initiative provides the Lackawanna high school football program incidentals they would not have been able to purchase without assistance.

Currently, our major fund-raiser is the Mike Mamula Golf Classic. We are working on our fifth annual Golf Classic and are progressing nicely. This year’s event will be held at Brierwood Country Club in Hamburg, N.Y. on July 21st, 2008.

ESPN’s Ron Jaworski and Producer Ruben Santiago from the Emmy award winning Lackawanna Blues and Academy Award nominated American Gangster will be in attendance. Both Ron and Ruben are Lackawanna natives and are equally as passionate about giving back. The evening event is hosted by Ed Kilgore of WGRZ-TV channel 2 in Buffalo, NY. We have also been fortunate enough to have the presence of NFL players: Jon Runyan, Jay Fiedler, John Harris and Tim Morabito.

This charity could not survive if it wasn’t for generosity from people and organizations like yours. We are trying to create a better tomorrow for the children of Lackawanna. Anything you can do, as far as sponsorships or donations would be greatly appreciated. I would like to thank you in advance and I appreciate your time. We would love to have you come and enjoy the event.
